I notice that the returner of the kick serve at the end of the video uses a 'gravity step' as explained by your video in the premium section. :p

  • ive already got the flat serve and hit it around 90-110 km an hour its about 20%-40% in but my second serve sucks (20-30 km an hour and is 95% of the time in) so i need to learn the kicker.

Through most instruction videos, I just realized that kick serve looks more effective than flat, then how come those professional players only use kick serve as their 2nd serve?
  • brian
I agree with Bjarki but i'd also like to point out that professionals do use kickers for their first serves. for example if a right hander is serving to the ad court, he might hit a kick serve out wide so that the ball will bounce away from the opponent. And if he is serving to the deuce court, he might hit a kicker down the middle to get the same result. However, he will flatten the serve out so that the ball will be hit with more pace.
  • richard i think its because there are more odds of getting a ace from a flat serve than a kicker and a kicker is more consistent
