Let’s talk more about the differences in the swing paths between the forehand and backhand volleys because I had mentioned in previous videos that the backhand volley swing path had a larger downward component. In the video above, Frank has completed his preparation for both a forehand and backhand volley, and we have them split-screened.
As we play the clips forward, you can see the two swing paths side by side. If we freeze them at the completions of the follow through and then draw a line from where the racket started to where it finished, you can see that there is definitely a larger downward component to the swing path of the backhand volley than the forehand. The result of this greater downward swing is that the backhand volley will have more backspin on it than the forehand volley.
