When you come to net during a tennis match, there are two ways that your opponent can try to get the ball past you. He can either try to hit the ball around your side (a passing shot) or he can try to lob it over your head and send you running back to the baseline. The overhead is the shot you need to master if you want to be able to put away a lob when you come to net. Its a very offensive shot and a critical shot to master if you want to dominate at net.
The mechanics of the overhead are largely similar to those of the serve, but it is the fact that you are moving when you hit an overhead that makes it a little bit different. In this section we are going to focus on the fundamentals of the overhead, and if you can master these fundamentals you will be well on your way to hitting an effective overhead. Whenever your opponent tries to lob the tennis ball over you, you will be able to put the ball away or stay on the offensive.
