Introduction to the Windshield Wiper Forehand Progressions

WHERE’S THE VIDEO?!?!
This video is available if you sign up for our newsletter. Don’t worry — it’s 100% FREE!

Also send me FYB’s 100% FREE 45 minute email course. Over 3 days we look at the forehands of Federer, Nadal, and other top pros and compare them to real-life amateur players to figure out exactly what the amateurs — and you — need to do to improve.

Welcome to the Windshield Wiper Forehand Progressions section of the website. In this section we’re going to teach you how to hit the shot by modifying how you swing up and hit the tennis ball. We’re assuming you’ve watched the Forehand Progressions videos and can excute that shot properly. We’re going to tweak that motion — specifically, how you swing forward and follow through — so that you hit a windshield wiper forehand instead of a “classic” or traditional forehand. The rest of the mechanics remain the same.

The Windshield Wiper Forehand puts extra topspin on the tennis ball. That will make you more consistent. It will allow you to hit higher over the net — get more margin for error — and still have the ball drop safely into the court. Also, it permits you to hit harder. That extra spin lets you take bigger cuts at the ball.

Is there a certain grip thats supposed to be used for this forehand or can you just use what ever grip you’re comfortable with?

Check out our grips section. There is a range but you can use — and some grips you definitely should not be using.
