Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray meet shortly in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. These two have met 9 times before, with Nadal holding a 7 – 2 advantage.
In the previous round, Nadal beat Ivo Karlovic in 4 sets while Murray dispatched John Isner in straights. Nadal’s level of play has been somewhat inconsistent over the course of the Australian Open and it’s unclear exactly how well he’ll play tonight. Murray, however, has been playing excellent tennis.
That said, we expect Nadal to beat Murray in 5 close sets. Our view is that Murray’s counter-punching, often passive style of tennis will allow Nadal to develop a rhythm and, ultimately, take control of the match. If history is any guide, the players who have had the most success against Nadal are the ones who play aggressively, shorten points, and never let Rafa get in a groove.
What’s your prediction?

Tut… wasn't really a very close match. Murray was hitting well, Nadal wasn't.
i think i was the closest. i was only off a game on both the first and second set and the 3rd was to crazy to predict. lol! who would of ever known nadal would forfeit the match. tough luck….
Nadal wins after 5 sets… I'm sure that one of the players will have 2-0 at sets and in the end we will reach to 2-2. Why? Because both of them if they play their best tennis can beat the other and as Will said Nadal is somehow inconsistent with very good balls followed by stupid mistakes… So, if Nadal will have 2-0 Murray can come back to 2-2 and meanwhile Nadal will wake up for the final set… If Murray have 2-0 he will push Nadal to play his best and get focused ant this will bring him back in the game… I don't think is going to be any set finished at 7-6 (tie breaks I mean)…
So, 3-2 for Nadal after 2-0 in sets and no set in tie breaks
Murray wins by coming to the net, playing aggressive off the ground and serving well. Alot like the US open match you ill advisedly wrote off.Rafas forehand vs Murray's backhand decided this match and when murray uses his backhand hard cross court it gets Nadal everytime. I think you need to have a less bias approach to tactically evaluating Murray's matches!
Agree there. Funnily enough the first paragraph of Tim Henman's article on BBC news mentions that “once the rallies started to get to eight or 10 or 12 strokes, Andy was winning the majority of them”, so shorter points don't necessarily beat Nadal (anymore, anyway).
Nadal lost ¡ ¡ ¡ nadal could have won the first two sets easy because he broke murrray but he ruined that moment…….. well he needed to get more presure on murray being more agressive then Murray become more confident and started to smash backhands to nadal's forehand
Rafael all the way. Will beat Murray in 5 tough sets!
