LEARN TO PLAY BETTER, WINNING TENNIS
FYB Premium costs just $24.95 per month. When you join you’ll get immediate access to the first 5 blocks of the FYB System - hours of HD video content. We regularly update FYB Premium with new content, and you have 60 days to request a refund if you don't like what's inside.
Inside FYB Premium you'll find the "FYB System." The System is a tightly integrated guide to playing better, winning tennis. It's similar to a course you would take in college. It's not just a collection of tennis articles, videos and tips.
The System itself is broken into "blocks," which are like chapters in a book. The first several blocks focus on things like stroke mechanics, footwork, ball judgment and timing. The next several blocks begin to formulate a strategy based around the technique we just learned.
From here, your technique and strategy continually evolve TOGETHER. In this way you're NEVER learning a strategy or a technique you cannot implement. In other words, you never have to play a shot you haven't learned yet.
So each individual lesson in FYB Premium explains why you want to be doing something and how it may relate to what we worked on earlier in the System. Then you get a bunch of drills / progressions you can follow to help you master a particular technique / concept. That then becomes the foundation for another, more advanced technique / concept later on.
It's how tennis is taught “in real life.”
Master the fundamentals of stroke technique.
At FYB, we spend a lot of time talking about the fundamentals of the forehand, backhand, and serve. That's because the fundamentals aren't the basics - they're the things that every pro does every time they hit the ball. The large majority of problems that weekend warriors and club players experience aren't fixed by simple tips - They stem from not executing the fundamentals properly. We also show you the most common errors that players make - and explain how they interfere with the fundamentals. In the Premium section, we've updated the fundamentals, brought in new concepts, and made learning the strokes even easier. It’s critically important that you have the fundamentals because they are the foundation for the more advanced shots (such as the windshield-wiper and reverse forehands) we learn later in the FYB System.
Start to move like the pros.
It's not enough to simply run to the ball and hit. Just like the forehand or the serve, there is a very specific technique to moving around the tennis court. USTA 2008 Developmental Coach of the Year Frank Salazar (who contributed to the development of the FYB System) compares correct footwork to dancing with the tennis court - there's always a certain step and pattern you're supposed to be executing that matches the rythmn of the point. We teach you what those patterns are, then give you games and drills that practically force you to start moving like the pros.
These patterns let you hit out of an acceptable stance and be on balance.
Combine those fundamental strokes with rock-solid footwork.
Players who learn how to hit and move at the same time are inevitably more successful than players who simply learn how to hit on a ball machine. Understanding how your feet and stroke mechanics work together is one of the keys to playing better, winning tennis.
Directionals
Did you know that some balls are easier to control than others, simply because of how they are moving when you hit them? In these videos we explain why this is and discuss how this fact influences your shot selection. Once you understand directionals thoroughly - and we have plenty of awesome drills that help drive these concepts home until they become automatic - you're going to start playing higher percentage, winning tennis.
Court Geometry
The tennis court is a rectangle, and the net is higher at the edges than at the center. Therefore, hitting into some areas of the court is a higher-percentage play than hitting to other areas.
Court Positioning
The directionals we learn about don't just tell us where to hit the ball, they tell us where our opponent is likely to hit as well. We teach you how to combine the directionals and court geometry we learned about to help you determine where on the court you should position yourself as you wait for your opponent to hit. If you master court positioning, you'll always be a step ahead of your opponent.
This particular section is a good example of how previous lessons lay the foundation for later ones. Directionals, court geometry, and fundamental footwork are the pillars on which proper court positioning is built.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. It’s a business term we have adapted to tennis.
This section teaches you how to analyze your opponent, match your strengths to his or her weaknesses, and construct a winning strategy.
The Inside-Out / Inside-In Forehands
On the men’s professional tour, the inside-out / inside-in forehand is the “go to” shot. It’s a relatively high-percentage way to attack your opponent. And being able to hit it at the club level will give you a HUGE leg up on your competition.
“Zones” of the court and how they influence your shot selection.
Not all areas of the court are created the same. Where you are on the court heavily influences the type of shot you should be hitting. In this section we explain how your location on the tennis court affects your decision making.
You know how fast we innovate here at FYB. We led tennis instruction into the high-definition arena, and we've continued that in the Premium section. The video is crystal clear HD, the audio is crisp, and you can download the FYB Premium videos to your iPod in Quicktime format.
