In a couple hours Melanie Oudin will try to continue her remarkable run at the 2009 US Open when she takes on Caroline Wozniaki in the quarterfinals.
Unlike Oudin’s three previous opponents — Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova, and Nadia Petrova — Wozniaki isn’t a big hitter. But she’s not going to make many unforced errors either.
That means Melanie is going to have to change her tactics a little bit. In her previous matches, Oudin won a number of points by extending rallies and waiting for her opponents to over hit. Wozniaki isn’t going to donate nearly as much, which means Oudin must be more aggressive and try to dictate play.
Whether or not she’s able to do that is an interesting question. She hasn’t had to try up to this point in the US Open. Here’s hoping she can! Go Melanie!
