John McEnroe Plays a Point in HD

Here’s a point John McEnroe played at a 2009 Washington Kastles World Team Tennis match. McEnroe is playing for the NY Sportimes. He hits a drop shot vs. his 20-something opponent, Scott Oudsema, to win the point. Classic Mac.

He still plays the old fashioned way : Flat forehands and slice backhand the way it
was played in the 80s. That serve however looks quick and has some zip to it. He is
probably a better volleyer that most of the guys today. He looks natural at net unlike most the players of today who like lost out there near in the net.

Classic backhand, but notice how he plants the front foot and actually raises the back foot off the court as he swings. It is such an efficient stroke.

hourrah! hourrah for the continental gripp. Long life for this type of game. John et Henri ( Leconte ) have been practised the tennis of the century; what a sweet inspiration!

By the way, I just send a remark made by the french philosophe Gilles Deleuze who was very fond of tennis, he said about john Mac Enroe’s movement in both space and time :” An egyptian service added with a russian Soul ”. I wish I would add he stills ” un personnage d’Oscar Wilde”.
