How to Attack a Second Serve

September 2, 2011

To use a baseball analogy, the second serve tends to be like a pitch on a full count — the ball is coming straight down the middle of the plate. The server has to get the ball in and, as a result, the placement becomes very predictable.

This gives the returner a great opportunity to attack. We can now reposition ourselves to hit our best shot — typically a forehand. By hitting a “big shot at a big target” we can start many points on offense.
