Ad Court

The tennis court can be logically divided into two seperate courts, the ad court and the deuce court.  If you are standing at your own baseline tee looking at the net, the ad court runs diagonally from your left side to your opponent's right side (as seen by you - to your opponent, his ad court runs diagonally from his left to right).

The deuce court is made up of the other diagonal across the court, from your right side to your opponent's left.

The Ad and Deuce Courts

The ad court gets its namesake from the fact that "advantage" points (the points after deuce) are always played starting on this diagonal.  Other points started on the ad court include 15-0, 40-0, 30-15, etc.
